Medicare Advantage enrollment has significantly increased in recent years, from 17% in 2000 to 48% in 2022.¹ The increasing bifurcation of Medicare across Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) and Medicare Advantage (MA) makes it progressively more important for policymakers, health plans, and patients to understand how the programs differ.

This webinar is the first in a series authored by researchers at Harvard Medical School and Inovalon. You'll hear groundbreaking insights that reveal the differences between MA versus FFS enrollees before and after transitioning from commercial insurance plans to Medicare at age 65, which is the first-time researchers are making this comparison at a critical point in a beneficiary’s journey. Boris Vabson

PhD- Health Economist, Visiting Fellow in the Department of Health Care Policy, Harvard Medical School

Boris is a Seidman Fellow and Associate in the Department of Health Care Policy. He is also a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business and Washington University's Envolve Center. His academic work focuses on health insurance payment systems and markets. Much of his research examines health care privatization in the context of Medicaid Managed Care and Medicare Advantage. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and was also a Pre-Doctoral Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He received his AB from Dartmouth in Economics and Mathematics.

Christie Teigland

PhD- Vice President, Research Science and Advanced Analytics, Inovalon

Christie has been dedicated to improving the outcomes and economics of healthcare for over 25 years. An economist and research statistician, she works with health plans, providers, and life science organizations to provide actionable, real-world data insights on performance measure development and testing, health disparities/equity, predictive analytics, comparative effectiveness, treatment patterns, and more. She serves as co-chair of the National Quality Forum (NQF) Scientific Methods Panel and is a member of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) Quality Measure Expert Panel.

Jacob Milliron

Jacob is a Senior Director of Real-World Data and Solutions at Inovalon. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and has practiced clinical pharmacy for over 15 years. He also holds a Master's degree in healthcare administration from Cornell University.
